Christianity has always had to fight off heretical teachers and movements. Paul and Peter wrestled with the “Gnostics”. A heresy of having a “higher knowlege.” There are others in history which have claimed a higher knowledge than what scripture would plain about. A sort of “New Gnosticism” (or Neognosticism) is the loosely associated movement called “Postmodern” or “The Emerging Church.”
It is every bit as cultic in nature as Jehova’s Witness and Mormonism, though it is less organized as these. Yet, the teachings of leaders within the heresy dress sharp, act hip, and have a trance-like grasp on their inexperienced followers. Most who get involved in the Emerging Church are those who claim to be intelligent, yet have not found the historical Jesus portrayed by evangelicals and main line denominationalism, satisfying.

Wow! What a response!
It is so rewarding to have people comment and question and ask for more information when you preach a sermon. I am so pleased.
Yesterday we began our summer sermon series on “Flipping the 10 Commandments” (Sermon available online in a few days.) I want to share with all of you a couple of great points brought out by our wonderful young adults. A group of people I love so dearly… AND, may I add, keep me on my toes!
Every generation has its identification. The generation before mine had the Depression and the “Greatest Generation” which won WWII. My generation was identified through the Vietnam War and the Sexual Revolution. The Generation after mine identified themselves with “Grunge Rock” of Nirvana who embraced the “green” movement. Followed by today’s generation. I call them, along with other social commentators, “The Tattooed Generation.” Read more…

It’s the disgusting world of feeling somewhat satisfied because the lives of so many innocents will, if only for a day or two, be given reprieve. Justice for the thousands who have died at his hand. The fleshly side. Disgusting and ungodly. Read more…

Having started my Christian walk within the Presbyterian church, it saddens me to not only be witnessing a split in the denomination, but the reason why there is a split. The issue of homosexuality has become such a political statement in this country. The radical homosexual agenda has now come full circle and is taking a toll on The Church.

In my opinion, home Bible studies are one of the most effective tools for making disciples for Christ and for shepherding the flock. I also believe that home Bible studies create an environment that is more like the first century Church than anything else we do currently in Western Christianity.
I’ve personally witnessed lives changed, people saved, marriages healed, the lonely embraced, the needy restored, and the spiritually weak strengthened in home Bible studies and small groups.
Over the years we’ve lead home Bible studies in our home and are currently involved in a home Bible study every Monday night.
So, I read the following story with great interest: Read more…
