Just after I made the comment that I wanted to post on my site every day, I had a major problem! Continue reading
Wow! Back online!
Shrieks from the Darkness
Amazing. Absolutely amazing.
If there ever was anything which is important, it is the salvation which Jesus offers. No main-line denomination denies the ultimate subject matter of Jesus' coming to Earth. Salvation, a free gift to those who understand the grace through faith. Even the most liberal of theologies cannot find a bypass around the sacrifice which Jesus made on the cross. Continue reading
MY MEMO – 7-26-2011
Item #1 – Little Rock soldier murderer, pleads guilty.
Item #2 – Norway Gunman called "Christian."
Format Addition – MY MEMO
How often should a blogger, blog? Every day? When he can? When something strikes him? Well, I've taken the challenge.
Now, I know that my blog has been faithfully reporting Christian perspective for over five years. I've had guests and commentators on board who have given Christian perspective and wonderful spiritual insights. For the most part, they shall remain. But, I have decided to open up my blog to politics.
Why? Because I believe the 2012 Elections could possibly be the most important elections for our country since the country elected Abraham Lincoln or Franklin Roosevelt.
Besides, a pastor has the right to be politically active and give his opinion. Yes, I will still preach and give the Gospel a good emphasis of my time, but, frankly, politics fascinates me. I want to have fun with my commentary and opinion. I want participation! I want some edge! I want Christian perspective in politics!
So, look for a new article every week day on my blog. I will call it "MY MEMO."
So, let's begin!
Casey Anthony?
I admit it. I'm watching the Casey Anthony trial. So much so, that my wife has said to me on several occasions, "Isn't there anything else on TV we can watch?" Oops! You know I'm watching it too much, when she's willing to watch "Deadliest Catch" reruns instead of live court and reporting. My bad. Sorry, sweetheart.
Admittedly, though, I do get highly involved when HLN or TruTV or Foxnews begins and ends every report, and sometimes every commercial break with pictures of that beautiful little 3 year old, Kaylee Anthony, one after another, after another… So much, and so many of them, I want to throw the remote through the TV! I think that is what keeps me so "into" this trial. A little, innocent girl dies and her mother continues to deny she's responsible.
So, I'm sitting in church Sunday carrying on a conversation with a beloved member of our re-birth congregation. I made comment about the proceedings. She asked a very pungent question. "Why are people so caught up in this trial? I mean, it's not like children aren't killed by their mother every day." Continue reading
Truth Wins! A Message in Response to Reading Rob Bell’s, Love Wins
Truth Wins
By Arron Chambers
I love to write sermons, but I don’t like to read them.
Today I’m changing that up.
What I want to say to you—as we start this new series on Truth—is so important that I want to get every word right so I’m going to read my message.
You may not agree with everything I’m about to say.
That’s fine.
All I ask is that you check everything I say against the only standard that matters—the Bible, God’s Word.
I have to tell you that I’m preaching angry today.
Now, I’m not angry about being at Journey. No, quite the opposite. I love this church and I love serving with you. Weekly, you are like abundant cool fresh water source to this man’s parched soul. I love you more than I can express.
And I’m not angry about being in Greeley. No, quite the opposite. Greeley is a great place to live. I love our view of the mountains. I love that we eat cinnamon rolls with our chili! I love raising my kids here. I don’t really like the smell some days, but—otherwise—I wouldn’t trade my Greality for anything.
And, you need to know that I’m not angry with you. No, quite the opposite. I’m proud of you and humbled to be in the presence of greatness, kindness, and so many good people who love Jesus and are committed to changing this world.
And, I’m not even angry that my Colorado Rockies have been losing a lot lately because Jimenez can’t hit the strike zone, Ian Stewart is playing like…me, Cargo can’t seem to hit homeruns anymore, and Houston Street can’t hold a save to save his life!
But I digress.
No, I’m not angry with you. I’m frustrated because I just read a book that I found very troubling. Continue reading
Anthony Wiener & Deshon Marman; Counting the cost?
Can you believe it? Deshon Marman, a promising young football player from Bayview, California was placed in jail after refusing to leave a U.S. Airways jet. (He was on his way to the funeral of a friend… who was shot to death last week.) The reason why he was asked to leave was because he wore his pants too low for modesty's sake. Continue reading
